I got these shots near when I live in Utah the weekend of my yet again cancelled Yellowstone trip. Some consolation for not making it too the park. I came up on the two bulls in a small opening. Unfortunately the sun was pretty much in my face and the bulls where in the shadows. Worked them for about an hour before another photographer tramped up and ran them off. Never could get around them though. Almost had them in a sunlit area when they were chased off.

Another young bull the same morning but in a different area.

cool captures. I hate it when you cant get light, especially when there's action like that!!! boooohoooo, but I guess that's part of what keeps us going. . .

Hey Jim,

That was pretty cool to see even though the light was challenging. Great job. I understand that it sometimes occur that moose will lock horns and get stuck - and some starve to death in the process.

James

Yeah, I've found deer like that both alive and dead on our farm in Virginia in my younger days. Haven't seen it with the moose out here yet. These two were actually bedded down together when I found them and there sparring actually seemed only half-hearted at best. I don't know if they had been going at it hard earlier or not.
