This is my 14 year old girl, Cali. Pardon the shedding on the backdrop. She is a notorious shedder. Part of it is because her kidneys are not in the best shape. I will have you know that I am very excited that these are my first decent shots of her ever.

I do have some questions though - specifically, how are you folks handling flash in the eyes? I am doing my best to keep them at an angle, but I do NOT like seeing them. It seems that the alternative is to be spending hours in PS.

More pics of Cali! I love the look in the first and second photos. She is looking for treats and has that very focused look on her face. She is very difficult to photograph because she is ultra-sensitive to light. In order to make it pallatable for her, I had to have the flashes on the other side of the room. I was playing with ratios between my direct flash and my bounce flash to give a full but focused look.

These are the last two from Cali's session last night. I hope that I can try Four Legged James tonight. The other two are going to be a bit trickier as they are both former ferrals...and just a tad bit squirly.

Handling the flash in the eyes for me has been a matter of off-camera rigging, keeping the flash level with the cats' face to well-light them.

You have captured her very well in these. Very nice and I like them alot!

We purchased a small pet couch at a local re-sale shop for a few dollars. We thought it was cute and we may add more pet 'bric a brac' in some future pet portraits. On a sad note, one of the places where I was getting some business from (a pet store) burnt down, taking all of the pets in the store with it. They had an amazing collection of exotics.

James, I very much like the shots, and the crops, in my view, are well done!

I have one question. In all but one shot, the color of your cat is off white. The last two photos (in post #1070) show the cat as white. I like that color better - even if it's not her natural color - LOL! Is it white balance?

Cali is just charming. My favorite is the fourth one with a touch of her tail leading the eye back into the photo. I might take a bunch off the bottom and make it more of a horizontal image. It seems to keep my eye on her face more.

The last one, the prop is a bit too busy for your pretty girl. I just dyed a fabric one to mute it down a bit and that seems to have worked for me. I put Ritt dye in a spay bottle, took it outside and sprayed away. Might help with the contrast of the print. The chaise lounge I bought from Target in the childrens section and it was bright pink, but no pattern. It does have some embroidery on it that I have not figured out what to do with except photoshop it out of an image I use. This pug puppy is on it.

Cute shot, I like the pose, but for me the "chair" is a little much:) I would expect to see her sprawled out with some clothes on, and maybe a glass of wine, and some bonbons:) But I do love the nose on this cat, is it as large as it looks, or does it just look large because of the black fur around it?
