We decided to stay for all three days of coursing. I had originally only registered for Friday and Saturday. Friday was BITTER cold, with a wind that went to the bone. Saturday was nicer and rather pleasant. Sunday, was a drizzling rain, though, honestly, more tolerable than Friday!

I shot these at 1600 ISO, f3.5 and still could only get to 1/640th of a second! That is mid day too. I don't think we always realize how low light can be mid day

The E-3 handles noise at 1600 ISO better than my E-1 did at 400. I could print these straight out of the camera, with no fiddling

Riley was fighting so hard to be released, he knocked Cathy off the ground!

These are on Saturday and at 200 ISO. I just had to share them!

Dot finished her field championship in TWO weekends at 12m old. I am so proud of her!!

Julie,

Your photos are really awesome. It is nice that you added this piece to the thread. Curiously, are you seeing any softening or loss of detail at the higher ISOs, or is it nothing worth noting?

1600 has an almost film grain like noise. It isn't softer, or smeared, just a bit more grainy. Not unpleasantly noisy though. It would print really well.

If you look at the maroon leash of the dog, you can still see all the detail of the webbing. Some of the shots of them running were a bit less focused because I couldn't get the shutter speed up enough to get to 1/1000, where it really stops the action. I probably should have tried 3200 ISO. duh!

Here is a 100% crop. It is straight from the camera and no sharpening done on it

Those are some of the nicest "dog shots" I've seen this year.

Keep up the got work and congratulations on your E-3.

I had a chance to view my first coursing practice at a show. It was great! Anyone could let their dog run and I was amazed at how quickly they all seemed to just do it. From Great Dane on down they were such fun to watch. No wonder you like it.
I am always shocked at how Shorthairs seem to have after burners in the speed department. The one that ran this course was not exception. INTENSE.
Only wish I had my girls with me to let them take a run.
Do you see much injury in this sport?

Julie,

Would you be willing to post a few additional 100% crops from the camera for the ISO 1600 shots?

These are all great, that camera sure does handle the high ISO's well. Lure coursing is one of my favorite dog events to shoot.

Awesome shots from you too Peggy Sue! Isn't it fun to see dogs having so much fun.

This is all very encouraging, I just ordered an E3, but will keep, and continue using, my E1 & 510 ;>)

Your setup sounds like mine. I also have both the E-1 and E-510. I bought the E-3 about a week ago and so far it is a great camera. You will love it.
