Hi I’ve been a lurker here for a year or so and finally plucked up the courage to share a few from this year…. Mostly these are from northern Scandinavia where I have been lucky enough to be working!

Hi
Thanks Roman! I know every one says this but I’ve still got a huge amount to learn!

Hi Mark, and welcome!

I really like this collection. Just some minor comments:
1. I love everything about this image except is seems to be tilting slightly downhill on the left side. As I look at the horizon, it seems it should be leveled off a bit. Of course, that could just be my eyes .

2. Very nice macro shot. I'd like to see a little more depth of field.

3. Love the lilly.

4. Nice composition. I'd like to see a little more shadow detail.

6. Winter Scene: beautiful. Lovely light.

These are very nice overall. Thanks for sharing.

Jim

LOL, Mark, no overloading done here. These are great. I particularly like the winter scene and the butterfly - what wonderful compositions. May I ask what you are doing in Scandanavia?

Cheers
James

Hi James
Thank you! The composition is something i struggle with at times.. So i am very glad you think these work! I was pleased with them:-)
As to Scandinavia well I´m an Ecologist by profession and me and my wife are working on a project here at Umea University looking at carbon capture storage and loss in borel forest.... Though one day I if my photography gets good enough... well every one can dream right?!
Thanks

Hey Mark,

You are right - there is always room for dreaming. LOL. Actually, I believe it is all very doable so long as the investment is there and we have the talent. That is one thing I have found very helpful in the interviews I have done. You really can make a living doing this so long as the talent is there and you are willing to put the work into the business. Actually, I believe that is 90% of it...the business end.

James

PS What a really cool job you have during the day. It sounds like you are doing exciting things.

Thank you for the encouragement! What is it ‘genius is 99 percent perspiration and 1 percent ability’. And actually science is a good training for it I guess I’ve spent the last two months grinding root samples…. The wider picture is very interesting but ho wow you have to have commitment when it comes to the day to day work!:-).

Cheers
mark
