Was sorting thru some images and found this, I kinda liked it, looks like he is getting ready to rumble but as I remember he was sleeping.

Hey Gary,

May I ask where you saw this guy? He looks like pretty big guy. Moose are my favorite of the ungulates - though I don't get the opportunity to see large guys often. I did get to see a guy about this size in Wyoming this year by Oxbow Bend, but LOL, I got NOTHING of him even after sitting for over 4 hours one day.
Cheers
James

He seems to have an inquisitive look to my eye. Good fortune to get that close.

Actually, moose sleep on the ground; usually in short grass or near a stream. They are super gentle looking when sleeping unless you get a bit to close, then they are on their feet in a flash, and usually not to happy to have been disturbed. Moose are my favorite subject, I have photographed them thoughtout northern USA, Canada, Nova Scotia and Russia.

Hey Gary,

That's great. I had actually been looking for this guy this September. We had heard that there was a large bull in near by the campground. We did not see him that evening and we wound up heading towards Schwabacher's for sunset. We got nothing at Schwabacher's, but before the sun really went down, I was able to take this shot of the "Sleeping Indian." The view by the gros ventre camp site is quite nice (though there is another spectacular view from the Museum).

Cheers
James

We stayed in the campground for a few nights and spent allot of time with him, he would lay around for 3 or 4 hours and be up for 10 mins, he stayed over by the little theater area quite a bit. I think we were there at the same time last year just never bumped into you. My plans are to be back there late Sept.

Hey Gary,

We were there from the 23 through the 1st of October. We actually did run into a couple of forum members while out at Schwabacher's. We - entirely accidentally - ran in to Bernie Weinzimmer and Paul Frye.

I am still working on plans for our next trips. I am working on booking a wedding in Jackson in mid August, but I want to go out for the Rut if possible as well.

James
