We went to Merritt Isl in Florida last week and saw hundreds of birds, alligators, snakes, etc. We found out NASA is wanting to close part of this Refuge and build a new launch pad. I hope NASA don't do this, this place is a wonderful place to shoot wading birds......

I was there a few weeks ago myself. It is a good place for photography. There are no open or closed times either for the places you take pictures, so no problem with being their at dawn or dusk. The visitor center does have normal hours.

He was part way down Blackpoint Wildlife drive. I saw another one fly off in the distance, but I was quite disappointed not to get a good chance to shoot a good shot. He was out of his "nap" mode for all of a minute.

Yes We were. There is another trail just past the bathrooms that leads out into more open areas that We saw alot of birds. At the entrance of the park, there is a road on the right ( south side ) before you get to the Black point trail entrance that leads back in a more marshy area. There are a lot of gators there.
