I took the class at U of TN. I cut the puppy out and placed her on a new background

Hey Julie,

Very nicely done. Are you beefing up the blue in your daughter's eye? If so, care to share the technique? This is very popular in portrait photography, and my attempts at doing this have been unsatisfactory.

I didn't really beef up the blue but I did do a curves adjustment that did add contrast and in turn make them more blue.

I take the lasso tool and circle the eyes, then ctrl J for a new layer with just them, then a curves adjustment to taste, then I sharpen them at 132/.6/4 again, to taste and then I apply a mask and clean up any edges that look bad from my selection. You can also adjust the color of the eyes on this layer.

I don't do as good of a job as some. Some people can really get them sparkling. Here is one of my son, who has totally different colored eyes. It is amazing these two are twins

Thanks, Julie. This is helpful. You also just taught me a new PS trick. Spectacular. I may try this when I get back in from California in two weeks on a couple of portraits that we recently did.

Julie - super job cutting out the Golden. You did a great job on the hairs. Did you use extract or a specific program for it. I have had some great results with Fluid Mask. I like #1, too.

I use color range to cut them out and then refine it with a mask. I never have figured out how to use the extract tool!

Julie - don't put too much effort into the extract tool. I think it's terrible. Fluid Mask has worked very nicely for me.
