Julie,
I'm not sure yet. The Dogwood folks have their Specialty at those shows but I'm not crazy about the judge so if we go, it'll be to work and not to show. Have to see what's happening with our Standard Poodle client and our Great Dane client. If they're going, we'll probably make the drive.

I'll let you know for sure in a week or so.

Jim

Hope you are, got my RV reservations already and will be there all the days. There will be coursing too. If you aren't busy in the rings, come shoot some!

OOOO. Now that would be fun! I wonder if Rowdy could Course? Bet that would be fun to watch.

I'm actually contemplating entering Sundance. He's not even close to being ready for prime time but for Cathy Thompson, I'd actually consider the embarrassment worthwhile .

I'm just catching up on my backlog of orders this week but I'll let you know by the end of the week. It really would be fun.

I think to course you have to be entered and a sighthound. Unless they run a practice, which won't be likely since they won't start till around noon and it will probably be dark by the time the last runs finish. I am sure it will be a double major in whippets. Usually is.

Wouldn't surprise me if Rowdy would chase it though. I have seen lots of breeds who loooove to course.

Julie,
we have a doggie fun run that sets up at several shows around here and they use a lure on a wire to run the dogs through a modified Agility course.

Rowdy watched a few runs and then we decided to give it a try with him. The lure came by and he kinda watched it for the first 10 feet and then he blased off and tried to catch it. Got it just after he hurdled the A-frame . He's a very mellow guy but he loves to play and that game seemed like fun. I'm sure he'd chase.

I was kidding about entering him of course. On the other hand, if they had a practice run . . . . .

Julie,
I just checked out the Premium List and you're right, it's only open to Hounds. Hmmmm. On the other hand, the Dogwood Rottweiler Club is offering a Herding event, Introduction To Stock, and it's open to all breeds and not just those that "normally" herd. Seems to me you Sight Hound folks are a bit restrictive in who you'll allow to Course. Don't want those Greyhounds being beaten by the Rotties, huh?

A rottie couldn't come close to a grey! Those suckers are FAST!

I think it is more of a time issue. Only so much light in the day and with the shows going on, it complicates it more.

Though, ASFA and AKC only allow sighthounds to run. Though, ridgebacks and basenjis are not really sighthounds. They are approved though with both governing bodies to compete.

Rotties are herding dogs though aren't they?

Dottie would eat the sheep and Cinnamon would think I was stupid for trying to get her to herd!

Julie,
both Annie and Rowdy have their Herding Instinct Certificate with sheep. It is truly amazing to watch hi-prey-drive dogs like Rotties herd sheep and, at the highest levels, ducks. When we tested Annie and Rowdy, I thought I'd have a freezer full of mutton for a year .

And, yes, I sincerely doubt that a Rottie could keep up with any of those guys that are built for speed. To run and cut at that speed, you'd need to have that hinge in the middle and in that regard, Rotties are structurally-challenged.

More on Perry later. Gee, maybe we could introduce Sundance to sheep. Now, that would be exciting!

Hey Jim,
As always, your love for the Rowdman shines through!
Did you check in on the Golden ring?
My friend, Anney's golden boy "Fisher", took a 4 point major, and she had no one outside in her corner! I felt so bad.
Her mom has stayed at the hotel, wasn't feeling well...
WOuldn't that just stink???
LOVE Rowdy!
PS...saw the ad for Sonny, you spoke of a while back...on the magenta? Fuscia? background..?
Neat~
