Many of you have already seen this image here at NWP. From the positive feedback I received, I thought I'd send it off to IR's POTD contest (which has some truly incredible images). Well apparently they liked it too and it was the POTD for March 18th. I would have posted then, but I was out tramping in the sand dunes in Death Valley all last week and didn't have online access.

BTW they seem to have added some sharpening to the image I submitted because the one they have posted looks oversharpened to me. Next time I submit there, I'll have to take it into account.

Great work! Too bad it sure looks like they did oversharpened to me, but it's a great shot, and your original was perfect!

I guess this is part of why I love photography. Having no talent in art, sculpture or music, I like to think that I can still participate in artistic interpretation of my surroundings through photography. There are just some images that you know when you're looking through the viewfinder and you release the shutter, that you've caught a good one. That was definitely the case with this environmental portrait of a mountain gorilla. Now old "Brown Eyes" has not only been a picture of the day at Imaging Resource, but it has now won second place for the month of March. It's nice when your belief in your work is echoed by others and as an added bonus I'm getting a new Canon photo printer which I guess I can use for small prints (my Epson 4800 handles everything else up to 16x20).
