The first thought in my mind is "YUCK!" and then from a photography perspective I think "too busy."

However, comma, pause for effect, the lady that landed me my first big event coming up on the 24th said she would bring a plaid to put on the table (Cairn Terriers).

Rather than end up with her plaid that may or may not go with my background(s) as the only choice, I figure I'll get my own and even consider a plaid backdrop. I'm not too sold on that one though.

Any thoughts?

I'm working on a tactful way of explaining why I think it won't work if I get there and see that it really wont.

I wouldn't mind a tartan plaid table cover, but, I would make the backdrop be a solid navy or dark color out of the plaid. I would accent it with scottish stuff to play on the plaid.

With clients, you need to either be able to visualize a way to use their ideas or be able to say no. If you say no, you better also be ready to give up the job.

be careful with that pattern, use only LARGE patterns, small plaid patterns can look "digital" ie morie, or maze artifacts. . .

Ah, thanks for reminding me. I've seen the same thing on some stripes.

No, hadn't considered tartan, for all the reasons.

Jim if you do buy some plaid and do some test shots, could you post some here - whatever the results are like.

Next week I'm taking candid shots at a Scottish Heritage Dogs and Horses Show. It would be great to see any dog shots with plaid backdrop or table just to see how it looks before I go off to the fabric store myself this week (not that I had considered it til I read you post).

I'm going to try to get to a fabric store this weekend (maybe sooner, but . . .) and the event is on the 24th. If I find something, I'll definitely post some test shots.

I'm thinking maybe some accent pieces rather than a whole BG, but it all depends on what I find.

Sorry to be so late to follow up, but I didn't get to the fabric store as I had already spent enough getting ready for the event according to my wise and all knowing finance manager

One of the folks who invited me out did bring a kilt and some other props for their session and volunteered their use for everyone else. The results are better than I thought and one example can be seen in the thread I started here:
