I finally found a Greyhound rescue that didn't have someone doing their adoption photos and went to an event yesterday. Turns out that the dogs at the event are all adopted already and attend as "ambassadors" of sorts. I wanted to avoid doing a bunch of free portraits for the owners, so I told the president of the group that I'd send her a price list for anyone who wants prints. I hope that was enough. . .

The group wanted head shots primarily, so I took my narrow background (mistake, if you ask me). And I didn't spend as much time as I probably should have trying to get the body shots composed well. (Mistake # 2)

I did find the "lankyness" of the greyhound a bit of a challenge in the portrait setting, for full body images, but I should have worked it harder for my own education.

Anyway, the good news is that they want me to do portraits and candids and action photos at an event coming up in September. I'll be visiting the group again between now and then to practice with the body shots and maybe some environmental images if I can.

Here is one original along with a few variations. I find that the red one looks distorted, but it is mostly fodder for ideas.

Try a more earth tone backdrop with the fawn or brindle dogs. Primary colors are too jarring with them, I did up one(badly) so you could kinda see what I meant

Thanks Julie.

I like that, I'll have to see what I have for backgrounds and maybe go shoot some scenics to use.

That said, for the portrait events, I'll be using a "real" backdrop instead of the blue screen unless someone wants a holiday card or some such.

Yeah, I think that looks really nice! I wouldn't edit out the tattoos as that is a permanent part of the dog

Thanks again.

Now I just need to figure out a few alternate colors and how to get the clouds filter to work best with each of them. Blue was easy, yellow, not so much.

I'm doing Golden Retrievers on Sunday so I'll have choices of Grey, Blue, and Burgundy in Muslin, and I'll have the blue screen too.

The other day I played with one of your images and put the dog on earth tone. I agree with Julie. Up until now I have had a hard time with your backgrounds and I think it relates to the old style school picture blue.
It is fun to see you experiment. This last post is really nice.

Thanks Peggy. I remember that one, but I can't seem to find it at the moment

Here a a couple quick shots at some different colors. There is still some blue hanging out here and there as these were just quickies to see if I could get the clouds to work on the different colors.

On the last image, you might want to put the dark on the bottom since it will ground the dog a bit more. And who is responsible for that bed????
