Really cute pose. It may be a product of compression for the web, but I see some color fringing around the edges of the chair and in the fur along the top.

I agree Jim.

Peggysue, great pose and nice shot but it does look like it originally had either a red background or something that was replaced. I also see some red reflected in the pom's body. Were there red walls or something?

PeggySue,
I love Poms and that's a great pose. I agree with Jim and Bob -- looks like you cut him off of one background and placed him on this one. Real hard to do with that type of fur.

Here is one of the places you might want to try one of the dedicated cut-out plug-ins.

If this is a cut out issue, I may have a solution for you to try.

Make your cut out as best you can with whatever software you choose. (I use CS3, but have the trial of Fluid Mask for a few more days which is working pretty well).

Then, Select the area of the hair/background transition with a quick mask in CS3. Within that selection, go: Select>Color Range>Whatever color seems to be in the background (I use blue a lot since I'm on the blue screen, but any primary color works well if there is enough of it in the background).

You'll probably get a message along the lines of "no pixels were more than 50% selected" which is OK. Then, you can use the eraser tool, or the "clear" (Delete Key on Mac, I think backspace on PC) to remove the background color and leave the wispy hair / fuzzy fur in tact.

Obviously, this won't work out as well if you have red in the hair and background and use red as your selection.

FWIW, I haven't had any better luck with Fluid Mask on furr / hair than with any other method, but it works great for most other things.

Good catch guys. I went back to my files and am posting an image without anything done. By doing so, I again realize my poor filing system! I used to put my hands on film much faster!

I did not like his back paw where it was and his tail bothered me. So I played with this one more than I usually do. In doing so, I messed up!

This is not the exact image but you get the idea what the original was from that session. This puppy was not trimmed so I used "my scissors". I also disliked this background for this shot so I played with that. So to make a long story short, you are right in the finish work. Thanks for the comments. I really hope we can get more dialog in this section.

More people seem to watch this section but do not comment as much. I don't mind taking some heat when it comes to putting stuff out there to have others learn.

I agree with you. I'd love some honest, but helpful critiques on not just individual images, but my techniques in general in the area of pets. I'll have to post some more here looking for that.

Jim, I am pleased you joined this site. You mentioned a critique site that you enjoyed. Maybe we will be able to help each other with this section. I adore honest from the gut reactions. I would hope we can all learn from those.
