Beautiful shot Julie. These ears look really long (tall!) to me. Do you agree? I must admit that I have always loved the look of Danes, Dobs,Boxers etc with the cropped ears. But the older I get the less I like it. Just saw a service Dobbie that was a rescue. Some idiot cropped the ears himself with a scissors! Even after living in England and going to Crufts, it was not what I was used to seeing. I wish more would show natural and we would get used to that look. Even stranger was seeing an Airedale (which I grew up with) having a natural tail. Anyone else want to voice in on the crop/dock issue? Okay, it is not photography.

Julie - absolutely gorgeous shot of the Dobie girl. Hormones do a number on short coat dogs, even my Danes. I love the backdrop and lovely bokeh.
Peggysue - the Silkhua was a princess. I was at the horse show for 5 hours and never saw her feet touch the ground.
Peggysue - I crop my Danes and will continue to do so, but I don't think this is the forum for a dock/crop debate <VBG>.

I dock and I agree, this isn't the forum for discussion of that issue. Believe me, it's being "discussed" heatedly on every breed-related list in the country right now.

Julie, when you take pictures of your own dogs, are their ears in positions that you really do not like? I am fascinated by what appeals to us. Of course I do not want my Sibs ears to look like Malamute ears but is that conditioning? When you photograph a dog do you not try to go for the best look of what the standard is looking for?
If I were to advertise my photography using a Papillon, I would probably not use the Phalene style ear. (I want the discussion of the work to be about the dog and how cute he/she looks not the style of the ears. But with a Norfolk or Norwich Terrier I better make sure I am at the right specialty.
When we look at something and it appeals to us, why is that? Sorry to have asked a question you do not feel is relevant here but how many times have you heard an owner say "get his ears up"? I thought we could discuss how we look at what we photograph and why it appeals to us. Sorry.
