I took a couple of shots near Cape Meares State Park last weekend. Considering the amount of rain Oregon received over the last month, this was a lucky break. It got ugly moments later and of course started raining before the expected glorious sunset .
Any opinions are welcome!

Thanks,
Misha

Perfect use of the rule of thirds as it should be applied to sunsets. Marvelous.

Hey Misha,

These are awesome. I like the first one the best (though my wife prefers #2). I prefer #1 because I like the way that my eye is drawn towards the sun in the upper right.

What were the settings for this shot?

James

Great work Misha - I like both shots, but number 2 impressed me with the level of detail still evident in the shadows of that big cloud.

Nice work.

Amazing well thought out shots! Horizons are straight and where they should be. Exposures are wonderful. Detail comes through very nicely....and the colors are awesome.

Man....I never get tired of sunsets and light play.

Great work!

Now...of to the Columbia Gorge to play I go....(can get about 4 hurs of shooting in before work this afternoon)

Thanks for all your comments!

James - here are the settings for both shots...

#1: 20mm, f/9, 1/30sec, ISO 100
#2: 131mm, f/9, 1/250sec, ISO 100

I took a shot similar to #1 with my new Sigma 10-20mm lens. See the result below to get an idea of how wide you can take your 1.6x crop DSLR.

One more shot I took at about the same time. I wish the colors were more vibrant, but it was still a magical moment.

Regards,
Misha

OK, I'll ask it out loud.

Do you guys write down the data for a shot, or do you just dig the data out of the efix file (or whatever that thingie is called)?

Duane - actually Flickr.com does it for me. It saves and presents EXIF data for every uploaded picture. Fortunately, I don't shoot slides anymore where I used to manually write down all settings. Pain in the neck that was!

Did you use a NDG filter for the photo's Misha?
Just curious because i am planning to buy the Singh ray NDG.
