I am 57 years old. I started taking pictures when I was 15 years old with a Kodak 124 pocket camera. I grew up in Beautiful Utah. When I was 18, I joined the Navy and got to see a good part of the world. I got my first 35 mm in 1970. In 1980 I married my wonderful wife and we moved to Arizona where we raised our son. In 1999 we moved, sight unseen, to Colorado where we now live.

I got into digital cameras in 2000. I started with a Nikon coolpix 990. I moved up through several other cameras until I decided to go DSLR. Bought the Nikon D70, which I loved. And the lens’s OH MY Gosh. Sold the D70 to my son and bought the D200 (and more lens’s). I guess we all know how the “I’ve got to have that lens” goes. I won’t bore you with my list of equipment. Because who really cares? It is all about the images we capture. I haven’t put very many on “Photobucket”. I guess I should.

I have been selling some of my work over the past few years. People ask me if I am a “professional photographer” and of course I’m not. Photography is my passion. If you are passionate about something it will show in your work.

I spent several years in the D70 forums at DPR, where I learned a great deal because of people like Roman Johnston, Uncle Frank, Samjstern, and many others. How ever DPR isn’t what it use to be. I have been looking for a forum that is more about photography and less about equipment. Sometimes it’s nice to know what was used to get a certain look. But I hate the “which lens should I buy?” “should I replace my XXXX with the new ZZZZ?” Most people never learn how to use the camera they have and are thinking about the new one that just came out. They think a newer model will give them better pictures. The truth is, it is the person behind the camera not the camera “sees the photo opportunity” and takes the shot.

So now I will get off the soapbox and just say,
Hello everyone.

Kent

Hi Kent,

Welcome aboard. This is a very different environment as we are a small family. We are always glad to add new faces though - so again, welcome. I look forward to seeing some of your work.

Cheers
James

Thank you James,
I hope to be a contributing part of this community. I posted one pic., but think I got it in the wrong forum or maybe nobody liked it. It has been viewed some 30 times without so much as a word. Or maybe people don’t like to comment on new members work. Who knows?

Thank you for the warm welcome.

Hey Kent,

I saw the photo myself. It was a bit on the smallish side and hard to see detail. I apologize that I certainly have not commented on it. I definitely will. It has just been an insane couple of days (I had a shoot yesterday, and I was at the office today).

Again, welcome!
James
