. . . if anyone cared to provide some feedback on this image. this list is often very slow, so you never know if it's that or if it's the picture. but any feedback would be appreciated.

My first impression was that is looked like a beautiful place. Then I started to be the ever picky viewer that we photographers sometimes become.

I wanted to start to rearrange rocks. The ones that are under the water bother me. You cannot move to the right since that larger rock would have been worse and left may not have been an option. I am also not sure if you manipulated the water as much as I think you may have. I looks a little more cut and paste than in my mind, would be natural.

The overall image is lovely. It must have been a great place to visit.

peggysue -

thanks for your comments. to respond to a couple of your comments, the image i submitted is VERY close to the image straight out of the camera. i definitely didn't do anything to the water. just some very basic darkroom adjustments & sharpening is all i had to do to the image in pp.

as far as rearranging the rocks - i leave that to God. but my personal opinion is that the big rock helped to anchor the image, & the rocks under the water in the image were part of the scene. i'd like to see some other comments on this issue - that's how we improve when we're choosing what to include or exclude in the composition.

I find a lot to explore in this photo; like the thinner streams of water meandering about above the main falls. I almost missed them at first and was in initially thinking that a lower crop would would work better for me, but now I don't think so.

I don't mind the large rock right in front of the falls, but the rock / moss in the lower right corner is too bright for my tastes and pulls me away from the subject.

All in all, I like it.

Agree with Jim. The rocks in front of the main falls are excellently placed. The near rock at the right could be burned in, especially at the top. As it is, the eye travels too quickly to that rock. I think I'd also darken the foliage at the lower middle to left. It is a bit too bright, again leading the eye away from the falls. That bit of fallen tree (?) in front of the middle rocks is somewhat distracting. I've found that making such things the slightest bit fuzzy does wonders. Nice work.

Well here is my 2cents worth.
I think you have a lovely image ,the only thing I would have changed is I would like to have seen a longer exposure turning the falling water into cotton candy . I like the bright rock in the foreground it leads my eye right into the picture and on to the falls and right up to the small stream feeding the falls . KInd of makes me think of the Irish wet mossy places I have seen around the country. very pretty!

roman - you're a funny man. i can't tell you how fondly i still hold that day spent with you. this pic was in the back of the folder from that day - i recently came across it while i was looking thru some old stuff, & couldn't believe i had overlooked it. i would be honored if you would provide your honest critique of my pic.

you knew we came back to oregon this summer, right? did you see my pic of phantom ship in crater lake?

thanx

jim, walter, & randall - thank you for your feedback. so far it isn't looking like there is a clear consensus on the lower rh rock in particular. i'm basically in the camp with randall in that the rock anchors the image & helps draw the eye into the image. & i completely agree with jim about the streams of water above - it gives the viewer a moment of discovery after he/she has looked at the image initially.

i will do a little playing with the brightness of the moss on the rock in the lower rh corner to see if i think it makes the image stronger. i can see that point both ways - so i will see what it looks like after i've adjusted it.

my plan is to have it printed on metallic paper - so i value the feedback. thanx, guys.

Well.....kinda tough to cretique it. We seemed to be of similar mindset. Often people sitting in the same spot have very diffrent views of the landscape before them.....

In this case, we seemed to have almost exactly the SAME vision while we were up on that hillside pointing down at the falls. We must have been shoulder to shoulder when we took these images.

I too liked the composition, I think the only thing that needs work is within the post processing. Taking the shine off the green will calm your capture down (I had to do the same (above) to keep the composition working.) This allows the pieces of the landscape to be exactly that....complamentary peices...not focal points.

So, in retrospect, we have a unique cretique situation here. Wonder what others think of the diffrences between the files? The devil can (and often is) in the details. PP is the obvious diffrence, and I have a very minor set of diffrences in the frame on the right side including a tad more of the rock at the bottom left, as well as including some of the rock on the right side of the frame from the canyon wall. I softened the light in the tree and the rock, putting the focus back on the waterfall.
