Here's a revisited image from last January. Mattamuskeet is the largest fresh water lake in NC. It is over 40,000 acres in size, but averages only about 1.5 feet in depth over its peaty bottom. It holds tens of thousands of birds every winter. There is an especially large number of tundra swans who can easily feed off the bottom just by ducking their heads under as they cruise about. This is a place worth spending some winter days if you like birds!

Nearby is Pocosin Lakes NWR that regularly holds about 80,000 snow geese each winter.

Hey Durwood,

What a cool pose! My only critique is that the background looks a bit busy.

True, but the bird was embedded in the BG and I intended the reeds to be part of the shot. I guess I should "full frame" this one to show the entire height and curve of the reeds.

LOL, Durwood, you have permanently 'raised the bar' for yourself with your article and those photos. :P Also, I would not take my opinion as having too much weight either. It was just an observation.

No ... all opinions are greatly valued; even yours! ;^)
I DO agree with your observation. It bothers me, too.
