The National Park Service has tried implanting birth control chemicals in our local feral horse population on Assateague Island. Unfortunately the program seems to be a total failure. When the flies are thick on the backside of the island the horses often move to the beach where the seabreeze helps some, however you can still see a few divebombers in the shot!

Hi Allen,

Thanks for sharing. You know, when I first saw the title, I was expecting to see some babies...all 5 of those guys look about the same size.

The park service believes the horse population (around 150 )is harming the fauna/flora of the island. But the visitors to the park love to see the "wild" horses and many come JUST to see them! I fish the OSV (over sand vehicles) section of the park which is twelve miles long, the horses at the far end seldom travel to the tourist end.
