What is a good hosting site for photographers I currently have a web site Thur Betterphoto.com , how are they different than Smugmug or Snapfish etc. Tony I have noticed belongs to Smugmug, BTW Tony Bynum you have some wonderful photography. Can anyone enlighten me on which might fit me the best?
Thanks Randall

I'm currently using Zenfolio (zenfolio.com). You can check my sight at the link below. It does cater specifically to photographers and has alot of nice options.

Hey Randall,

I use Value Web for NWP's site, and Aplus for all of my other websites. For the price, you cannot beat aplus net. It is only about 10 dollars a month, and you get tons of bandwidth.

I recommend Aplus. In the past eight years, they have NEVER been down. They have complete redunduncy to stay online. When they moved from San Diego, CA to Overland Park, Kansas it was completely transparent. A number of local telephone companies use Aplus for their customers hosting. They are cheap, reliable, great service and continuously enlarging what they offer you at no additional charge. I have 200GB of web space and 2000GB of bandwidth for $9.95 per month and that includes my domain registration.

I am very happy with Smugmug, and you can take credit card orders without ever touching the order. See my site.

I've looked at smugmug and one thing I like is that the customers get to do the cropping if they choose a size outside of the native ratio of an image.

That also scares me as there seems to be nothing in place to keep them from trying to crop a wide angle environmental pose down to an 11x14 eyeball on a bird across a lake. Of course, when it comes out bad . . .

Hey Marty (and other folks using Smugmug),

Are you guys having any difficulty posting with smugmug? If not, would you please show how you do it? Some folks have complained that they could not embed photos from Smugmug here.

Thanks
James

It is EZ if you are not using protected galleries, or have one that is not protected and off public view, as I do. I will explain to anyone who needs, e-mail me. Just paste the image property between the two brackets as below

[image]Pastehere[/image]

the typing disappears and your image is embedded in the post- do it all the time. Easier once you have done it, e-mail me for step by step anytime.
Smugmug is great. I have no issues at all ever with them. I have the " pro site", and it pays its own way. If I were to go full time, I would go more elaborate and more money. For a part time seller, it works real real well. YMMV

I chose Zenfolio because I like the way the photos are presented on that site. I really like how clean the interface is, and particularly the slide show mode. They do not yet have a comments feature, but they say that is coming.

I do, however, like the forum on Smugmug - dgrin. They have some pretty good discussions on technique.

I use smugmug to post all my photos on the web, I also use it for family to print photos I take of them(so much easier than printing for them!) I use them for when I sell a full sized copy of a file to a client too, as then if they print it, at least it won't be from walmart where they'll turn the blacks green!

I have my site hosted and a sales gallery for proofing for out of town clients and for after the sales session.
