A couple of weeks ago, my wife and I visited Sabino Canyon looking for some fall color. (I know that time has passed most everywhere else, but Fall comes late in the Sonoran Desert.)

The cottonwoods were mostly still green. Understandable since daytime highs were still in the mid-seventies and overnight lows had not dipped below forty yet. But, we did manage to find a few pools of standing water in the creek, even though it had not rained for quite some time.

Hi Roman!

I thought you might recognize it. Yes, it is about half way up Sabino Canyon, near the fourth bridge. I was pretty surprised to find any standing water at all.

I don't know if they had closed the road to vehicle traffic yet when you were here, but for quite a few years now, the only way to the top of the canyon is to either hike, bike, or take an $8.00 tram ride. Same with the adjacent road up Bear Canyon, except that tram is only $4.00

A couple of years ago huge rock slides caused by heavy rains on Mount Lemmon wiped out huge sections of roads, buried most of the picnic areas, and severely limited access beyond the first bridge. When the National Forrest Service couldn't come up with enough money to repair the damage & restore access, locals raised over a half million dollars to subsidize the project.

Petra and I went up the day after they reopened it a few weeks ago. I'm looking forward to going back when snow melt in the Catalinas makes the creek flow again.

Funny part is...that distinct ridge. I had a pen and line drawing made of it for my business cards when I sold real estate with Roy Long realty there on Tanque Verde and Pima office.

Yes the road was only foot and bike traffic when I lived there. Used to Mt. Bike that area all the time.
