After I get some standard poses, I try to have some fun. I'm not too proud to use PS to sell images. Its not an original idea, but my customers like it.
Note: No butterflies were injured in this shoot.

Very nice! I like how the background complements the cat's fur as well as the behavior. This is the kind of image hope to capture. Is the tiny part of the paw covering the bottom part of the eye a point of concern?
The paw on the edge of the eye bothers me, not showing the full tail bothers me. But, since I do capture all of that in other poses during the session, it doesn't bother me too much...if my customer decides to purchase a large print or two.
This is a blue Somali, which is a long haired Abyssinian, and like Abys they are hyperactive and love to play. I've seen one jump six feet through the air onto its owners shoulders and the owner never even blinked...like it must happen all the time at home. At home, they are known for being able to find the highest places to go in a house, as well as being able to open cabinets and drawers. And they are very curious and playful.

Preston -
Do you utilize a "cat wrangler" when shooting?
I had the privilege of meeting Helmi and Ken at a recent show here in Texas and I have to say, I was mesmerized while watching them work their magic.
I left that show realizing that cat photography requires a very different skill set.
I commend you on your work.
GLM
Thanks. Yes I have been working with my father-in-law who is very good with the cats. I work some weekends alone but it is more than twice as hard without a 'wrangler'. On this particular 'prairie dog' pose, I was teasing and shooting. I have also worked a couple of shows with Helmi's husband Ken, he is great to work with and is the best there is at what he does. Ken and Helmi are fun to watch, especially with multiple kittens.
