...welp, chalk this one up for the books. I sold my 17-85 IS on ebay this weekend. I finally made the arrangements for payment and accidentally left my lens on the floor next to the door (so I would not forget it when I left in the morning).

Well...I got in this evening and the dog must have been using it as a chew toy. The box was totally shredded, and the AF mechanism appears to be not working (though the lens is trying to focus). Thoughts on how much it costs to repair?

The dog or the lens?

wow, that sucks. . . didnt your wife ever tell you to pick up your things and dont leave them sitting around the house? LOL

I have no idea what it would cost to fix, but if it were a nikon the dog could have consumed and passed it and it would likely still work. . . ;-)!

I think there was a typo here. If it had been a Nikon it would have blended in and James may have never found it!

OK, it was a joke from the other side, just a joke.......

James,
all of the helpful tips above notwithstanding, did you send the lens to Canon NJ for repair? Seems to me that would be the best alternative.

Jim

Hey Jim,

No, I did not send it yet...I need to. It was frustrating because someone had actually WON the lens. I was prepared to ship it, and made a bit of a schlamazel out of myself in the process and left it by the door. Mahkayla then got it...and well, the rest is history.

Anyway, I was thinking about David's idea for a visa commercial, and I thought that perhaps I could make even more money selling video of Maykayla passing it all(LOL, put that 5d video feature to use!). I am sure that there must be someone who is into that sort of thing.....

If your customer still needs a 17-85 before you can get yours passed and repaired I have a good copy I'll let go of for the right price. Positioning myself for that 5DM2.
