New D200 arrived, figured I'd test drive it on some birds. Here's a shot of Sasha, using the SB-units on the new 10mp body with a 60mm lens. The detail was fantastic, and no noise visible as I test shot from 100-800 ISO. I believe this one is at 200 ISO. (see attachment)

Hey Chris,

Congrats on the new toy!!! I am preparing for a 5d myself as the news I am hearing on the 20d replacement (assuming it is correct) is that it will have the same resolution as the 20d - not that it is not enough as it is. LOL...but the 20d has not been accepted for stock work and this is an area I want to start getting into.

BTW, still doing that parrot show in August? If the invitation is still there, I will gladly take you up on it.

James

Thanks, Jim! But, don't congratulate me yet - charged the sucker with a positive tax return forecast. Tell no one.

Yeah, the MPs required for stock work (is it 12 MP?) is high, isn't it? I guess that's why Nikon wants $4,500 for the 12 mp model. Fiends.

The invitation still stands - we're doing "Christmas in August" for holiday cards, and too it'll be a nice opportunity for generic beauty shots. As soon as a date firms up, I'll pass it to you so you can clear the calendar!

I don't see a picture...of the conure??

OK you guys stop talking tempting expensive camera equipment LOL!! It is so hard to resist. I am considering a Mark II for the action shots (found a good used one at a reasonable price). And will have the 20D for overall. Now trying to resist more...mega.pixels....:)

Hey Chris,

Megapixels are not the only piece of the picture for stock. For example, the Canon EOS 1d Mark II, which only has 8 megapixels IS accepted for stock...oddly enough, the 20d, with the same pixel count, is not. Check out Darrell Gulin's article for more information on that one.

Hey Dee,

Chris actually attached the file to his post...so you have to click on the word attachment in blue. I also prefer linkages as I like 'instant gratification' when it comes to this sort of thing....but sometimes it is not possible.

Thanks Jim, I hadn't noticed that up there! I see it now, beautiful shot! I love these well lit sharp shots you guys get indoors...one of these days I'll get a set of something!

I am going to go check out that article myself right now...having just sent in an offer for the 1d Mark II. I wonder why it is that it is accepted for stock work (and I'm mighty glad to know that!). Maybe becasue the autofocus is so accurate the shots come out sharper over all?

Jim, thanks so much for pointing out that article! Brilliant - and too, the D200 fits the bill, it says. Now all I have to do is compile 100+ interesting and unique pet photos (with 900 in the drawer) and make a pitch. Good plan for the year 2047!!!
