On Thursday my very dear 8 and a half year old Bullmastiff, Juba, suddenly took ill. By Saturday morning, after a visit to the emergency room and vet, he was not able to walk. The vets suspected that he had a brain tumor and his decline was sudden and rapid. He blessed our lives in so many ways and had an impact on everyone who met him. We are now left with Max, a Golden Retriever that we brought home 4 years ago that had been very badly abused. Juba was his security and his savior. He is going to be lost without him. I take comfort in the fact that he is now running around somewhere free of pain and hopefully an endless supply of ice blocks...his favorite thing in the whole world.

Yvette,
if you've read my latest post, you know I understand completely. Juba was a beautiful dog. And sometimes, quick is better even if it hurts a lot.

My hope is that Max will take the strength that Juba gave him and hold it for his own. Dogs are very resilient. They take behavioral cues from their alphas and make them their own. I'll pray that Max will do the same.

And for you, I wish you strength. Juba went swiftly. That was a gift. You may not realize it right now but in time you will. My very best wishes for you and your family.

Jim

So sorry for your loss Yvette. The loss is so great now and hopefully those ice block memories will help you smile and remember the wonderful times you have had with Juba.
