I went out to shoot a stunning Stargazer Lilly and had difficulties. It is a cluster of huge white flowers about 6 feet in the air. I was unhappy with what I was getting when I noticed this little guy taking his time eating on a Cosmo. So I switched gears, and lowered my flashes(2) to his level. I call him the Bee Fly it is easier then Bombyliidae.

All shots were with a Tamron 90.

Thanks, Jeff

Hey Jeff...

Starting to show off with the macros, eh? Spectacular shots. Really quite good.

James

Very nice! So is it a bee, or a fly?? :-)

Must dust off my macro lenses, you have inspired me.

well I WAS going to post one on MY bee shots, 'till I saw yours! NICE!! Am I correct that you are using a two-flash setup? I don't have anything but a D-200 and a 105 VR Macro at this time. The darn things go in and out of my focus area SO fast!

James Thank you. I have been a Macro fiend since my Coolpix 995 days. Love um.

Chezzyr, thanks. And it is a Fly. Defensive technique to fool pray into thinking it will bite:) Please do get out that Macro Lens!

SHEP, Thanks much. I am glad you decided to post it anyway. Yes, this was taken with 2 flashes, a SB-800 and a second off brand flash wire to the first. This way I was able to set the D70 to f25 or so. I also have Lumiquest pocket bounce diffusers on the flash heads. I know what you mean about the fast moving subjects, but this guy was very cooperative.

Thanks, Jeff
