Here is another type of Bee Fly. These Bee Flies are also called hover flies. This time with one flash unit(SB-800) and a diffuser. All three shot are of the same fly.

These are awesome shots. Really nice - again, the Tamron 90mm? I also like the rich saturated colors. Did you play with them at all?

I was very happy with them too. I knew I had some keepers in that shoot. Yes it is the Tamron 90 again, my favorite lens. And this time I had the flash(SB-800) camera mounted and bounced off the Lumiquest Pocket Bounce card. As for saturation, I reduced it a little. Color was set using a WhiBal card and setting White balance of the RAW file using RSE. There are always slight tweaks, but those colors are very real. The Star Gazer Lilly is an amazing flower.

Yeow - I think the third is my favorite - the comp is simpler, dynamic.

How do you get them to STAY around? All the flys I have known (and I have known a lot!) fly away as soon as you get near.

Thanks Chris. I thought it worked. I wish I had more DOF behind the fly but at least the eyes are in focus.

SHEP, I wish I could give you are trick or some detailed approach. However, I just happened to find a couple slow moving flies:) I do in general find the hover flies in general to be a little less flighty then other varieties. Maybe they were just to interested in their food.

Excellent bee and flower macros Jeff. The vibrant colors really set off the bee flys.
