I really hate to be this activist but I plan on never knowing buy anything from China again. Check out todays national papers. All are reporting on the slaughter of over 50,000 dogs because of a rabies scare. If you are walking your dog down the street, they will take it and club it to death in front of you. They go in to areas making noises that will cause dogs to bark, and when they do they will take them. As pet lovers ( hopefully we all are if we are photographing them!) please take action of some kind. This should not take place and should not be accepted. Thanks for reading.
Here is one site for a story-

There are articles in the Chicago Tribune, just Google the topic and you may read more.

Yes it is distressing, there has been a lot of reporting on it in more general dog forums. If we boycott made-in-China products we would need to contact Embassies etc to tell them exactly why - otherwise it has no meaning. Plus hurting the ordinary Chinese people who are equally appalled about this great wrong is not helpful. Difficult. This morning my new Lowepro Mini Trekker camera back-pack was delivered. Delighted with it, except for the "made in China" tag which I had been unaware of when I ordered it from interstate. I'd vaguely thought they were manufactured in USA and shipped from there to Australia. Complicated issues.

Hey Julie,

There is nothing wrong with being an activist. The question is what reasonably can be done? It is an oppressive government...and this was an evil act. Having said that, while I laud the idea of not purchasing items made in countries where the standard of living is not comparable to the US (i.e. Japan, Western Europe, Canada, etc), the reality is that there needs to be an alternative. I used to purchase all my clothes from LL Bean. Not because of the style, which I disliked, but because it was the only place you could purchase clothing made in the USA. Having said that, about 3 or 4 years ago, they went down the toilet too. I used to purchase only New Balance because they were made in the USA - I stopped after going to the store and not being able to find one pair made in the USA.

It is a 'global economy,' which means we don't make anything anymore. We only sell widgets and hamburgers.

James
