I live in the woods and am blessed with many seed trees around me. Maples, hardwoods etc. This is a very deep and nearly virgin decidous forest area on the side of a larger river bluff (Mankato Minnesota, Minnesota river valley).

I took this image today. Just wondered what people thought of it.

it's a great capture, I'd burn it a bit, or somehow lighten the bird's white area, then sharpen it. Do you know the name of the bird? Do you have any more?

George, that's a very cool shot. Anytime you can fill the frame with a bird it gets ooooos. This shot has great detail, and I like the composition. On exposure, it could be a little brighter, and the white balance is heavy on blue. But both of these things could be worked out in post processing.
Great capture.

Thanks, Jeff

The bird is a female hairy woodpecker and yes I have quite a number more from this series. Being small birds they are often tough to capture due to their small size and very fast movements up and down and around tree limbs.

Thanks for the input. Just what I was looking for.

It is almost perfect! Aside from what has been already said, I'd like to emphasise more sharpening (mild USM should do wonders). The expression of this bird is the cutest thing I've seen all day. Good capture!
