These are some shots of a feral that my wife and I rescued tonight. She has two kittens that will also need a home. Though momma is a feral, she has been allowing me to pet her for days. The kittens are currently hams for human attention. The black kitten shown was taken already...but the striped one is available (if anyone here is in NYC). THe other kitten is super cute - though she has a little eye infection. They are 'buddies' and are constantly hugging each other.

Well...the story continues to unfold. It turns out that Momma is 'very' pregnant and may give birth imminently to a new litter of kittens. What the doctor did not say is that mom would start giving birth on the way home from the vet's office. Yup. I said that right.

The two older kitties that we have got clean bills of health - though one of them had round worms (currently being medicated).

So...until we find new homes, we are weaning them from Momma in a separate room in our home. Wow.

Wow, what a day! The kitties are adorable and I can't believe she had new ones in the car.

I am glad she is tame enough to handle. Makes things easier. Hopefully you will get the other two placed and can focus on placing the ones in the new litter(when ready)

This is a picture of the striped kitten. VERY cute little girl. Very adventurous. I also developed a small poster that I am going to post in a few places. I am dropping my sitting fee significantly, but I want to draw attention to these little guys and get them forever homes.

LOL. Looks like I have to work on the grammar a bit.

Cheers
James

... a small poster ...

James this is a great poster, the whole concept is sort of "new" - some people advertise in general that their sales support rescue, in a non-specific way - and "profits" can mean anything from "everything" to 10 per cent which could mean a deficit after real costs, that is, "no profit". This poster is so clear cut - no small print - I hope it works full speed, would love to know if there is response. How many will you be able to post? Will be so good if it has some attention, especially with homing the kittens (and Mom-cat, with a de-sexing agreement).

Hey PC,

Thanks for the comments. Yes, I figured that in this case I wanted it to be VERY clear cut. I want to get these guys adopted - they are adorable. I also want to recoup SOME of the costs of paying for them. So far, the price on the poster gives it an unjustice. They eat like horses - and I get only the 'good stuff' - only human grade foods.

We have named Momma, "Maya" in the short term. We were going with Elizabeth, but it did not fit. There is a very good chance that Maya is going to become 'our' cat. It is not an ideal situation as we already have 4 (and a dog). However, she is absolutely amazing for a feral. If I can get a good loving home, I will be happy for her. Though if not, I won't return her to the streets.

Tomorrow we start the process of introducing the kittens to the rest of the family. We want to get them acclomated to other pets and humans. We are also HOPEFULLY doing an adoption fair on Sunday with the two kittens. The sooner we have them out of the home, the sooner I can stop worrying that we have officially crossed the line and become 'hoarders.'

As for how we are going to advertise this. My wife is going to plaster the neighborhood with the flyer. I am a former board member in the buildings that I live in, and am trying to get the poster put in the elevators, etc. I figure that I have done the co-op a favor as they no longer have Momma begging for food in the garden - something that used to drive management crazy...not the begging, but the food cans and other such refuse.

So far, we have collected over 100 dollars in contributions from neighbors - not bad as we really only plastered the neighborhood on Thursday. While it is only a drop in the bucket compared to what we have spent on the mother and kittens, at least it is a beginning. It is pretty exciting because we have received many comments from folks - many of whom have been feeding this stray cat for months apparantly.

I have included a few new shots of the kittens. The white and black cat, Kim, has a home. This is great news. The boy, Michael, has had several bites, but no home yet. I had hoped to adopt them together, but I think that if I find the 'right' home for one cat, that is a good thing.

The first two shots are done via natural light. The shot of Michael was taken with the lights up and running. Mike is still not 100% at home yet, and I think he looked a bit anxious. One step at a time though.

Cheers!
James
