This was an impromtu portrait party. I got a call yesterday afternoon and asked if I was interested in having 6 whippets come over so we could do another portrait party. Sure, why not? It involved pizza, beer and wine. Not to mention 8 dogs running through my house. What could be more fun?

Hey Julie,

They are all great, but the 3rd one looks like the lighting was not right. The white dog looks great, but the striped one looks like it is not getting enough light. The first portrait looks great, but you might want to fiddle with the levels just a bit (if I were home, I would give it a try...).

You seem like you are coming along with your studio work. How have you found the learning curve to date?

Cheers
James

I have found the learning curve incredibly steep. I usually learn things quickly and easily. The whole studio lighting thing has me kinda befuddled. I obviously don't "see" light well.

Sadly, I dream about it every night. I did have a lighting revelation in a dream though Seriously. How sad is that?

Every session is look better and better. It looks a difficult thing to learn.

The first one looks a little dark on the right on my screen? And the nose is a little dark on the second.

Good luck

Nat

I love the 'classic' poses of three-and-four. And I love these studio light threads, they spell out for me all the problems (and hopefully solutions) I hope to be coming to terms with next year.

I am wondering if my modeling lights are too dim. I can barely see with them and that doesn't really make sense. I am going to email AB and see what they think.

I think I am finding it so hard to "see" because it is so dim. Or maybe I am just making excuses!

The white whippet is a *beautiful* example of the breed. I mean gorgeous. She came from a show kennel and the dogs just do not live a house life at all. Doubt they are mistreated, but, they aren't like my dogs. This whippet did NOT thrive in that environment. She is afraid of everything. When her now owner got her, she wouldn't let anyone touch her at all. Now, she will come up to people and touch her nose to them and she loves her owner.

Getting her photo was a trick because she was so afraid. When I saw her turn her head back like that, I figured I could at least get something artistic. Her owner was thrilled at the photos I got, because I got a few decent ones. Sad isn't it?

Cinnamon is so easy. I stick her on the table, tell her to stay and when I say her name she twists her head and cocks her ears. Dealing with strange dogs and owners is GREAT. Such a learning process!
