Thought I'd post some images from my home stomping grounds. Batiquitos Lagoon is in Encinitas, CA
and is a wonderfully restored coastal lagoon on the west coast migratory flyway. I live about
3 miles away and try to get down there as often as I can. Here are a few images.
(BTW - The sunset image is done using Roman's HDR technique in PSPX)

Hey George,

You should have posted these more slowly in a series. WOW, what a collage. Some of them are quite nice. There are a bunch that I really like.

The first is the frog - great stance and great light.

The second is the one of the two birds - just great capture. Do you know what type of bird that one attacking the hawk (I think?) is?

The 3rd set, the florals, are quite nice as well. They were captured quite well.

The last shot, I like the composition. You might want to try Roman's blending technique on it though.

Thanks for sharing all of these great shots!
James

Thank you James. Yes I may have overdone it a little. It is always a challenge balancing size
and resolution on the web.

Actually it's not a frog. It's a common ground lizard.

That's one of the White-tailed Kites (from the two roosting in the tree) attacking a Red-tailed Hawk.
They really don't get along too well.

I guess you missed the parenthetic reference to using Roman's technique on the last one. This
was a particularly high dynamic range image and the only thing that saved it was using the
HDR technique. I really wanted to just give enough exposure of the lagoon region to provide some
detail. Because it was really dark if I pushed it any more there was a real noise problem.

LOL, glad to see that I am paying attention. Anyway - very well done. Do you know what type of lizard it is?

I think the lizard is one of the "spiny" varieties but I'm not sure exactly which one.
Next time I'm over there I'll check at the nature center.

What a lovely set of images. I particularily like the Egret and the flowers. Your cropping may be a little tight on a few images. That could be because of wanting to post them all but the Pintail is wonderful but in my opinion could use a little more headroom. (butt room as it may be!)

Your placement of the Pintail right about that lovely flower (??) is really fun. Could be a whole series of animals design similar to that in plantlife.

Thankyou Peggysue,

Maybe you and James are right, the "collage" presentation idea may not have totally worked. I did crop
things closer than the original images to get them to all fit in. It was a real trade off between content
and composition. I was trying to give an overview of the lagoon and some of its natural attractions.
I hope that you got that message.

Very nice. I especially like the bird pics. White tailed Kites are sadley only out west. Plus your Red tailed are more rufous on the underside than the eastern varieties I see. In compensation the back of the tail is much brighter red in the eastern hawks.
Out here I mostly see Osprey chasing both red tails and eagles.
Great photos(even the non-bird ones)!

Thanks Joe. Yes I do appreciate our western Kites. The pair at Batiquitos has been there for several
years. They are a joy to watch as they hover hunt above the lagoon. We have 4 Ospreys currently, but
I've never seen them go after the Red Tails. We also have a pair of Red-shouldered hawks that hunt the
lagoon. And right now the Egrets and Herons are nesting in the rookery in the lagoon. Spring is a great
time here.
