I have just finished my latest painting. The whole reason I got into photography was to get better photos to paint from (and of course then it grew into it's own obsession). But I can somewhat justify all the $$ I've spent on photo gear by being able to paint from the photos I take. (does this mean I can go buy a new lens now? Haha. I actually have no more lenses on my wish list believe it or not. Just waiting on that MKIII)...

We took my cousins Friesian to the beach this fall for photos and this is what came from it. It's several photos put together but it was quite a thrill to see Thor the Friesian cavorting on the beach (he was always on a long line). At one point my cousin led him for his first walk in the surf and they went in up to her waist, she started to jump the waves that were rolling in and suddenly he started to jump them with her! It was pretty awesome to watch.

This one is titled "Splash Dance".

Hey Dee Dee,

This is really quite marvelous. I like how you developed the front rim light and kept the rest of the horses profile in shade...very much like a photograph.

Oh Dee Dee, this is just beautiful. I just came home from a foal shower. The owners and mares first. Being in a horse frame of mind, this would be lovely to live with! Would make a great gift. Limited edition?

Thanks guys, I would have liked to kept this one to exhibit but it's on it's way to it's new home in Canada now.

A horse shower what fun! I have not heard of that but great idea! Actually I only do unlimited editions now, I have sold out of some that people still asked for so I now just do unlimited. Hallie and I went to our Arab show here yesterday and there was a gorgeous white (well of course he was technically gray but as white as gray can get) stallion who stood out from everyone, great action, looong flowing mane and tail. (the guy handling him wasnt' half bad either LOL). I am going to call the owner to see if I can come out for a photo shoot of him at liberty in a pasture or at least being lunged, (the show was in a covered arena and I got good shots but would love outdoors). I would love to paint him!

OOPS! I'm happy for the chance to clarify that one LOL!

The horse, the horse! Only the horse!

Anyone else steps out into that pasture and I'd just be a breeze flying by your ear. LOL.

You could paint glow in the dark paint on the handler and let him run around the area- that way light does not matter. And for the grey stallion, please post those as soon as you can.....Do you know the stallions name and breeding? I cannot wait for either images to show up on this site!!!

LOL Peggy Sue I like the way you think!

The stallions name is WH Araby. He is in the top 10. I was mesmerized by him, not only his general beauty but his action, he would make a great park horse if he isn't already.

I have been trying to contact his owners since the show, I finally was able to connect with her a few minutes ago we talked on the phone and she's very excited to have me come do a photo shoot with him! And I'm VERY excited to go do one! If I get the shots I'm hoping for I will be painting him soon I need an Arab painting. She is going to talk to the trainer and will get back to me on a day, we also have to wait for the weather to be ideal. I am guessing for a horse this white (he's only 5 she said he was pure white at 2!!) lightly over cast would be best? Or evening light if sun? Anyone know for sure? I haven't shot too many pure white animals in natural light.
