here's a couple natural light shots of my daughter. I took them yesterday in my yard. Both I lit myself with a Lastolite reflecter, hand held.

She is my daughter, she's 4 but dont let that stop you from telling me what you think of the shots. . .

I think the light is a little hard in the face on the last shot, but I wanted only to light the face and not all the stuf around her. That I did, i just dont know if I over did it. . .

d2h, 28-70 2.8, shot f4@400, ISO 200 . . . cloudy WB and all that . . . and lastolite handheld reflector. . .

Tony, she is a beauty and definitely has a sparkle in her eyes for daddy.

I like the shallow DOF in each with just enough depth for focus on her face to isolate her from the surroundings. The light in the second is brighter than the first but I don't know that I like it less; it's just different when you compare the two side by side. I would be pleased to frame either.

Best regards,

Dick:)

Hey Tony,

I like both of the shots - a lot. Very nicely done. Tell me, what do you think of the 2nd shot that I edited? I played with the light, just a bit, on the face.

James

Thanks guys for looking and telling me what you think.

James, I think I like it better, it's a little softer looking.

Hey Tony,

It was a very simple. I created a dublicate state, and darkened the top layer by kicking down the curves. I then used the art history brush to bring back the original lightened areas everywhere except on your daughter's face. It was a 'quick and dirty' job, and I did not take time to account for additional ruddiness, etc., that might get potentially introduced into the image.

Very nice portraits!
I really like the first one, she's got a georgous expression on her face and the lighting and such is nice.
Did you do any processing on her eyes? To me, they look a bit photoshopped compared to the rest of the photograph...but that may just be me!
I would try adding a small bit of contrast and sharpening a bit. But really, it's great the way it is.

Great eye!
