This is why I buy a ton (yeah, two thousand pounds) of bird seed and peanuts every year. In a rare daylight appearance, I shot this from my window blind. I had a 600mm lens mounted so this is nearly the whole frame! Canon EOS-20D, ISO 1600, 600mm f/4.0, 1/200th @ f/4.5.

Hey Ken,

I saw this shot posted at DPReview. Very nice. Do you really purchase a TON of seeds each year?

James

Yes, more than a ton. I have up to ten feeders going, and I also broadcast a little for the ground feeding birds. I have opossums, a lot of squirrels, a chipmunk or two, and other small rodenta that help out, besides the big munchers as shown in the photo. Sunflower seeds, thistle, corn, peanuts, and the odd bag of other stuff for variety. I buy 50# bags, always, so a ton is only forty bags. Averaged, it's about a thousand bucks a year, and worth every penny to me.

Wonderful shot!!! Love the expression

My dogs would kill anything that came into our yard. Squirrels are my oldest whippets favorite game. Birds are the youngest one's favorite. Thankfully, both are pretty darn fast and can get away!

A real special one. This is an image you don't see often if captured in the wilderness. Very nice depth of field.
