Hey,

I was lucky enough to see a wolf close up while driving from Manitoba to Ontario, and some bears on the way back. They were all close to the highway...
you can find more of my wild animal pictures here: http://puscheli.deviantart.com/
I am always looking forward to constructive critique!

Real nice shots. How taken?
side note- an 11 year old child was literaly snatched from a tent here in Utah by a marauding Black Bear two nights ago- killed the kid and the next day our Wildlife Dept used dogs to track and kill the bear. An absolute nightmare story, look it up on google. Those bears look friendly in those pictures............

Hey Marty,

That is a very good point. Wild creatures are just that. Wild. Safety precautions need to be in place when we are out in their territory. I feel horrible for the poor child. I have included the link below to the story for folks who might be interested. In this case, it was odd because it was a black bear - and these stories are much rarer than with grizzlies.

Thank you Marty!
I was really lucky...we travelled from Winnipeg to St. Catharines (2 days drive across Canada), and just as we left the motel one early morning (6 am), two wolves ran across the street. We stopped our car at the side of the road. The one turned around, so the other seemed to be waiting for it...and he did that just a couple of meters away from our car (I had my window down)...
The bear we found on our way back from St. Catharines to Winnipeg last week (we actually saw 3 bears but the other two were too scared)...he was eating flowers in a ditch next to the highway...we stopped and I got out of the car and headed towards the bear...it was a smaller one, maybe a few years old. But as the bear saw me, he decided to check me out, so I decided to go back to the car...my husband called me to hurry because the bear starting trotting...I took over 100 pics and most of them out of the car, although I had to put my window up sometimes because the bear came right up and stared at me...he checked the car and the tires and even stood on his hindlegs once, but the windshield was too dirty for a pic and he was too close...
I took all the photos with a digital SLR (Canon digital rebel, 6.2 MP) with a 200mm lense but most of the times I did not need to zoom in all the way.

I think it's terrible what happened to the boy but in my opinion it could have been prevented...bears normally don't come close to people on campgrounds except they smell food...like in the Algonquin Park in Ontario they even advise you to keep things like showergel or toothpaste in the car, so bears are not attracted by the smell.
