Some time ago I came across an ingenious device for portait photography and video interviewing. It was a box, mounted in front of the lens, containing a transparent mirror angled at 45 degrees and another mirror (parallel to the first) off to one side. The idea was that the subject would see an image of the photographer's face while actually looking directly into the lens of the camera. It seemed particularly useful for children and pet portraits where it is difficult to keep them looking straight into the lens.

Trouble is I now cannot find the bookmark I made, and endless Googling has got me nowhere. Does anyone know of this device to at least give me a manufacturer's name so I can find the website again?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Jeremy,

Honestly, I never thought of something like this. It is a great idea though. How was it being mounted on the camera? Attached to the lens or to the tripod mount?

James

It had mounting rails, similar to close-up bellows. I'm not sure how it mounted - my guess would be via the tripod bush onto a sliding platform so it could accomodate different camera sizes and lens lengths.

I agree it is a very neat idea - I always have trouble when photographing pets keeping them looking into the lens. I wish I could find it again.

The inventor/manufacturer was promoting it for portrait photography and also for video interviewing when you want the subject looking into the camera.

Anybody seen this?
