Nice picture. I can't attract them here in Va very well.
Have you tried posing a nectar feeding shot with flash?
I've seen a discussion about that somewhere but I can't recall.It's my understanding that you take a lot of photos of empty air.

I agree with the general consensus - great shot. I have never seen a photo of a humming bird not moving.

That is a sweet shot.Those darn things are hard to shoot.

Thanks for all the comments. Yes these little guys are pretty fast. They don't sit still for very long but this one was guarding its food supply and not letting others around it. (-: This was taken in my backyard and on this tree out of view there is a feeder. I have found if you want to get good shots of these guys this is the best way to do it. You have more control and can still make it look very natural.

exceptionally sharp and clear! i've only been able to get perched hummers from a distance, but then, i don't have a feeder, either. unfortunately, with 4 cats, one of whom LOVES "poultry", i'm not sure who i'd be feeding!
