hi everyone, just joined this forum, and thought i'd start out with a shot or two of critters from my neighborhood...

a kingfisher... these guys are notoriously hard to get close to, but i lucked out and was able to approach within about 25 feet of this one to snap some photos. i got off about a dozen shots before he got tired of my clicking and flew off...

I love it, king's are my favorite bird, only where I live, we dont see much of them, and when we do, they are impossible to approach, just about as bad as the herons. . . .

Hello Rocky,
Great shot of the Kingfisher. My sister had been seeing this bird at her house and did not know what it was. I had told her it was a Kingfisher and went to photograph him but I can not even get close. As soon as I raise the camera he flies.. Again welcome!

thanks, everyone! these guys are very skittish, i'm still amazed i was able to get so close... but also very pleased! i'd been trying to get a decent shot of a kingfisher for over a year!
