Hey Everyone,

I thought it might be interesting to have a new photo challenge. LOL, the prize will be bragging rights. :P Daveman started a great thread in the Critiques forum where he showed one of his pieces of work. Roman used his processing techniques to turn it into something rather spectacular. He also left links as to where to learn about his processing techniques.

Does someone want to offer a file to see what can be done to process it? If no one volunteers a file, I will put up one of my Death Valley shots.

Here is Daveman's thread:

Cheers
James

This would be great fun and great learning! I'd like to participate. I assume a RAW file is what would be needed. As you said, James, if nobody has one they're excited about I might be able to come up with something. Do you think there are other attributes of this public file that would be important? Like:
broad range of colors and luminance, mix of areas with complex detail and areas of much less detail, action vs no action? I'm fine with whatever and would also be pleased to work on one of your Death Valley shots.

It's a good idea james, i'll through in a file if we need one, heaven knows I've got a few extras. . .

James, how about a report of the weather out your way, you get any shots of the tornado?

LOL, Tony. If you are up to throw in a file, I will gladly take the responsibility of e-mailing to everyone. I will mention it during our next newsletter (which will be around the 20th).

As to the weather here - it was quite impressive, or at least so I am told. I slept right through it...though when I woke up, there was a flood in our basement, which is something I have never seen here. Also, many of the subways were shut down througout the City - also a rare occurance.

The weather today was much better.

James

Sounds like a great idea, lord knows I have several that the many experts on this forum could minipulate into something worthy.

my attendance here has been pretty much non-existent over the past few months, but i REALLY need to change that. i came across this thread, & noticed that a few people thought it sounded like a good idea, but noone posted a file.

SO - i thought i would go ahead & offer one up to get things started. this image isn't perfect, but i like it a lot, & i think there is room to get a lot out of it. i will be very curious to see what you guys can come up with, & hopefully in the NEAR future, i'll be able to start figuring out the techniques.

BTW - the link that was provided in the opening post here isn't what it says it is.

WOOPS!! apparently i can't attach a RAW file. so how do i go about submitting the RAW file?

Hey JP,

Send me the e-mail, and I will take care of it. Thanks for volunteering.

I have one of the Napoli Coast, Kauai that I've tried many many times to try to make look right, but I can't seem to get the right PS magic with it. I'd be thrilled to have others give it a try.

darren -

did you shoot in RAW? or jpeg? if it was RAW, you will probably have to do like i did, & get with james to send him the RAW file thru some 2nd party type submission. this site wouldn't support the RAW format, & in my case, the file was too big to send just email.

i have seen the very edge of the Napali Coast from Kee beach. i would love to see your image & have a chance to play with it. i'm anxious to not only see the all the submissions on my current challenge file, but hopefully learn from some of the better ones.

i can assure you that you will likely be amazed at what this group can produce.

get w/ james & get your file submitted, so that it will be ready when the current challenge dies out.
