that's cool. I think that's the first young GBH that i ever have seen. Do you ever photography the wild horse swim?

Could you explain your shooting data - ie, how or why you chose that exposure? I'm just curious if you used a method or if you just found a correct exposure. . .

It is NOT a young GBH. It is a Little Blue Heron (LBH).
I chose that exposure by using aperture priority mode and choosing f/8 for its DOF and sharpness and which allowed for a fairly fast shutter speed.

I do not want to be anywhere near Chincoteague during the pony swim days. The place is too crowded for me on non-event days.

very nicely done. i like the reflection, and the sort of "crater" you've captured in the water... what's the pale object in the water to the left of the splash? looks like a fish, maybe?

we don't get that species of heron here, but there are tons of great blues, a few greens, and fewer still American bitterns. i'm told there are black-crowned night herons on occasion, but i have yet to see one...
