I live in a small town of around 8,000. We have two vet offices. The vet I use has given me a wall in the waiting area to post some of my pet images, so I can hopefully build a small part time business from doing pet photos. I photographed the "office cat" Just wanted to share and get your thoughts.

Hi Emmy,

Congratulations! I hope that you see a lot of business. I have the same arrangement with one of the local vet offices here

I like the photograph of the cat a lot. Great pose and handsome speciman. I see a slight (and I am being incredibly picky) issue with the whites getting burned at the top - but honestly, if you were not asking for thoughts, I would also get rid of the eye shmeg with a gentle application of the clone stamp. I would have just said...'great shot...' because it is.

I believe the shot is okay. I'll take the critical eye approach. I hope youre looking for constructive comments. If not, ignore me.

If i were to display a shot for marketing purposes, I would want it to be a little more balance and at eye level. animals usually appear better if they are photographed at their level. I would also have not clipped the front paw and likely would have positioned the eye a little farther up and off center of the frame. Finally, if you want that wow factor, you will need to capture an emotion, or a "pose." Your shot lacks the energy that I would want to see in an example of the type of work I shoot. There needs to be more flow, or more energy in a shot that's projecting your talents.

I you choose to use that shot, i'd crop it so that it has more balance so that it's not over weighted on the right side as it now is. . . you could crop it so that the eyes are a little more to the upper left than they now are. . .

good luck,

Tony

Thanks for your comments, James. I will clone the eye stuff out. I really enjoy photographing animals!

Tony, Thanks for your comments also. I do need and want constructive comments and advice. I admit I still have a long way to go but, I am hoping to learn from all the photographers on this site. I will try some other crops and see how the image looks.

This kitty has a sad story...He has some sort of illness and they do not know how much longer he has to live.

I think that this is one of the reasons why what we do is so valuable. We also photograph many ill pets.
