dee dee, safety up until you get it a figured out. the metering and flash technology today, with the gear you have is awesome! I'd try a few on full auto and just bump the flash up or down to suit your taste. You will be amazed at how accurate the auto fill can be. It will adjust the flash output to compensate for the background. Make sure you set the camera on P and the flash to full auto - be sure you use full matrix metering - or whatever canon calls it. after you get some "keepers" you can get a little more creative. You might also want to use a diffuser and or a flash bracket! I always use a flash bracket. If you’re worried about camera shake at a 60/sec f/4, than put you unit on a monopod or a tripod. . .
