Well we're doing this again on Monday LOL. They just couldn't decide on one shot so asked if we could do it again and I said SURE I'd love another chance to practice. I've learned a bit more with each one. We're going to another spot this time with more background options to choose from and it's supposed to be overcast which should help. Meanwhile I'm studying the article Tony directed me to on the flash unit, I'm starting to see where it might have gone wrong but need to try it out. Sounds like I should use P or M and not Av or Tv...I was wondering why my shutter speed was so slow even with the flash, the article explains it.

dee dee, safety up until you get it a figured out. the metering and flash technology today, with the gear you have is awesome! I'd try a few on full auto and just bump the flash up or down to suit your taste. You will be amazed at how accurate the auto fill can be. It will adjust the flash output to compensate for the background. Make sure you set the camera on P and the flash to full auto - be sure you use full matrix metering - or whatever canon calls it. after you get some "keepers" you can get a little more creative. You might also want to use a diffuser and or a flash bracket! I always use a flash bracket. If you’re worried about camera shake at a 60/sec f/4, than put you unit on a monopod or a tripod. . .

Good luck! Have fun, and don’t forget to crop in the camera! Think output; watch your background and edges!
