It's always been tough for me to get decent shots of wild turkeys as they don't usually let you get too close; that head is always bobbing so fast; and well, they are black, aren't they?

Dark, in the shade.

Black, that is until he stepped out into the sunlight!

Amazing what a little sunshine will do to those turkey feathers!

Shot 66 seconds apart with Nikon D70/70-200VR & Nikon 1.7x TC @340mm. Very little PP involved, just cropped, a little NR (ISO 400), brightness and contrast, and USM.

Hmmmm...PBase links appear to be broken. If the Red X appears, the Chameleon Turkey is here:

Thank you, Roman! They are tough subjects and I was lucky to get these, especially with him obliging me with the color contrasting shots.

Sincerely appreciated,

Dick:)

Hey Dick,

Great shots. When I was in Kansas last year, at a wedding, I had the opportunity to stop and try to photograph some wild turkeys. LOL, I have never had such a difficult time photographing something. They really can move.

Thank you, James. We've got lots of turkeys in East Tenn. As you say, they are very hard to photograph with their quick movements, especially that head. I've got lots of nice feather detailed shots with blurred heads!

Dick:)

Hey Dick,

I hear that - actually, I have lots of photographs of turkeys running away from me. 'Nothing like the north end of a south bound turkey' or so I have heard.

James
