First test and getting used to my new D2X. I have to say that I love this camera. The LCD screen is very deceptive though....it shows stuff considerably brighter than they truly are...I alway know this as a rule...but this seems even more so. Colors are actually better than my D70 and closer to accurate out of the cam. Needed a whole less post processing than I was used to out of the D70. Below are some choice shots from the day....(more keepers per shot too from this cam) After that will be the link to the whole gallery.

Impressive first outing with the new machine, Roman! No learning curve for you. Looks like you used every lens in the bag, too! ) It's almost strange to see that 100 ISO after being so used to the D70.

Wonderful gallery of images!

Best regards,

Dick:)

Hey Roman,

I have had the same experience with the Canon LCD. I actually ignore it in most cases as what looks perfectly OK may actually be 2 stops (or more) underexposed. I use the histogram for everything when I am taking critical shots.

How do you find the resolution difference moving from 6 to 12.4 MP? Have you had to purchase a new computer to go along with your camera?

Richard....thanks...and yes I did use every lens in my bag....(which of course was the point of testing)

And while I like the results...I know I have a lot to learn on this camera.....I also find (against the grain of common posts in jut about any forum) that this camera is more forgiving than most people think....now mind you it will show you any misgivings in your glass...but this is actually an easy cam to use.....just pop her into manual...watch the histogram....the nice thing is the meter is VERY consistant...im quite pleased.

James....I find a HUGE diffrence between my D70 and the D2X.....absolutly mind boggling....This is the detail I have been craving. I am a computer tech by trade and was building a new system anway....and just finished building it this weekend. AMD 64 Dualcore 4200 with 3 Gigs of ram and SATA drives(including one dedicated super fast raptor drive for my photoshop scratch disk) I am gonna get two more 300Gig SATA drives (already have one) which will put me over a terrabite internal....and I have two external 160 gig USB drives for photo backup of all my processed keepers.....so system wise....no upgrades needed....but if it was my old system (i ran some shots through it...AMD 2600 Barton with 2 gigs of ram) would have been ok...but its like night and day with the new system....I am truly amazed. If I had not already started to build a system....I would have after dealing with the size.

People keep saying that the D2X is unforgiving....I really dont see it. Sure...if you are reckless or don't think things through.....it can let you know....but I actually found it easier than my D70 to use. (actually I think the D70 pushed me harder than the D2X does...but I also think that exact fact prepared me to work better with the D2X.

What do you mean by unforgiving?

Lou

Lou...I think they were saying that sloppy handling will produce sloppy results.....but thats with ANY camera. My point is....when you spend the money on a pro body....while you shouldnt expect the camera to do all the thinking for you......the superior components (like the meter...and AF) should reward reasonable handlign much richer than a camera with a lesser system. Now I am talking about the details...not the artistic pieces like composure....no camera can substitute for that. I just find that for my style of photography....that the D2X is actually easier to get rich rewards from....than my D70....thats all.

Tony.....thanks!!!!

Roman
